archkre
What is your opinion on Norton Systemwoks 2004 , is it convinient to install it? Or is it a pain in the neck? Thanks
Greg Hess
I never like the norton packages. They install too much worthless crap. Just a waste of resources IMO. All the tools in there are freely available online, or in your default OS install. You just have to learn how to use them.
cullen
I use norton system works and I love it...I will say that I didn't install everything. Most of the stuff I just run off of the disk if I need it. Greg is right...If I installed everything, there would be a lot of worthless crap. One of my favorite things about norton is their "norton win-doctor". It fixes all kinds of errors that make your computer run slow and such. archkre
So you'd recommend me installin' N. Antivirus + Windoctor and the rest running from CD? Thanks
Crazy Homeless Guy
i vote to install nothing norton. i use AVG or McAffee, or Trend Micro here at work. they are antivirus software, and nothing more. they don't try to take over your system. even antivirus by itself does to much to your system imho. Greg Hess
Windoctor can be replaced with regcleaner (jv16's) which is freely available on the net. Add Ad-aware, learn where the OS puts all the temp files, and defrag often, and you can get "better effects" without wasting resources or system space. (I'm all about efficency when it comes to loaded programs) I actually don't even run a virus checker on this system. I either run it on a secondary system and scan across the network, or I use a combination of... Stinger http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/ Panda http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/com/activescan_principal.htm Or Trend Micro's Online Scanner http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ Which gets the job done. Controlling what you download, and how you access your email, is far more important then the type of antivirus software your using. Proactive is the name of the game. Reactive is what all the Scanners do.
