Road modesling?

Hi,

I have a modeling problem I'm trying to confront for a long time, and that is modeling the roads that are sloping and curving at the same time.

Usually, the most problematic area for me is the junction where different geometries meet. I tried several methods: Extrude & Taper, Lofts, Edit Mesh & Booleans, but in most cases the connections in the junction are bad, to complicate to fine tune, and basically inaccurate.

I would also like to know if there is a neat way to add sidewalks to the roads.

Thanks

Where can we find this tutorial?

CGA Home page, Monthly Column;

http://http://www.cgarchitect.com/upclose/TB/default.asp

I think the June & July 2002 articles cover the sidewalks.

There is more in the CGA Header Links "resources" >>. There are some on lofting and Montree (smoke3d) has some good polygonal modeling tuts that my help also.

Hi,

Sorry for the late response, I was away for the week.

As I mentioned I tried lofting, but it didn't quite do the trick for curved and sloping roads with variable profile - what you would find in any city that is not flat.

I am working with a NURBS based 3D application called CATIA that can produce this kind of geometry easily, but it doesn’t' import very well to MAX.

I'm not familiar with MAX NURBS but do you think it is worth while investigating it for this problem?

Thanks
