Craig Ramsay
Has anyone had any problems with Photoshop CS crashing? My machine has re-started itself with no warning 3 times in the past couple of days always when using CS. Any ideas?
Ras
Hi Craig A collegue and friend of mine had similar problems with Photoshop CS. He was running out of disc space on the drives he had assigned as scratch disks. Once he cleaned out the problem stopped... Was that Any help? Craig Ramsay
Thanks Ras, I did check that but I have 26.5 gig free on my scratch disk so I cant be running out of space or memory... my machine has 3GB RAM. Hmmm very wierd

Tim Nelson
I've had the same problem quite frequently when using PS7 but I don't think it was the programs fault. I have a usb card reader for my digital camera, and if I don't disable that device (you know, the 'safely remove hardware' feature) then it will cause my computer to restart at any given moment. So when I do need to use it, I enable the device, get what I need from my card, and stop it again. Works perfectly as long as I remember to do that. Also seems like it crashes mostly when I have Photoshop open though, and thats why I'm telling you about my experience - just in case you have a similar situation. Shot in the dark, but I hope it helps.
Onslaught
I'm having the same problem with PS7, but mine restarts when I do my page setups. Once I finish my setup and start to print my machine just re-boots itself without any warning. Still have not found any solution for it.
Craig Ramsay
Very wierd! My machine used to be rock solid but it has re-started itself twice this morning Its becoming a huge pain. Im not convinced its CS anymore as I switched back to PS7 and the same thing is happening, grrrr
Tim Nelson
Have you installed anything else lately? I think it may be a device driver like my problem.
Craig Ramsay
Thats the funny thing, I haven't installed anything else. My IT guy has come up with a solution tho: new workstation lol
Iain Denby
There are many issues with CS. I have a couple of problems within the program, but not the same as yours. It's about time Adobe brought out a patch.

Iain Denby
I've had real problems with slow performance with CS. But I have discovered that if I set the ram usage DOWN to 50% it's much faster at opening/saving/panning and zooming.

bully712
Almost a year later from the last post, and still some sort of problem with PS-CS. Our IT department install CS when I recieved my new computer. My CS crashes many times a day, especially when using the magic wand tool. It's driving me crazy. I have dual 3.4 processors w/ HT, and 4 gigs of Ram. Just thought I would share my frustration..
Jeff Mottle
Until CS, I in the 10 years working in the industry have never once seen PS crash. Now, it seems to crash at least several times a week. The machines we have at work are very tightly controlled so there is nothing but the bare minumum on the machines and they crash all the time. The copy I have at home with more crap that any one computer should have to deal with never crashes. The only difference in hardware is that one is an Intel Dell and the one at home is an AMD. All I know is that the magic wand has caused more crashes for us than anything else.

Ernest Burden III
Single AMD here, few if any crashes with Photoshop, though I use PS7 most of the time, only use CS when I need something only it has.
PostPS
Just what how much diskspace and RAM do you have anyway?...a program usually crashes if your system cant handle it...so you might want to get an upgrade, a lot cheaper than getting a new machine...or your system might be infected by some kind of virus or something, so you could reformat your harddisk.
