Can't see images in the forums

I'm getting a lot of those blue square messages to say I'm either behind a firewall or haven't set my security to allow viewing of images etc. However, I can see some images on some of the threads. I tried viewing the threads with the firewall completely de-activated without success. I've also set IE to allow cookies on www.cgarchitect.com.....no success. I don't have any issues like this with other CG web sites. Can anyone enlighten me? Thanks

Well,

What this site does is relaying its ip number to identify the server where you came from. Your problem is either a firewall issue or an internet explorer issue. There are some options in IE to do this (not sure wich ones unfortinatly). I've had the same problem, and it was a firewall issue. When you are behind a firewall, you can set the ip address from cgarchitect to allow relaying. Try looking at the site on a different comp, different internet connection but the same browser. I'm almost sure its still your firewall doing something even if you've deactivated it. Got a firewall here too, but had no problems with this, so I guess my firewall factory settings enables relaying of IP addresses.

If you can see some images on some threads this propably means they have linked it to their own host or a free-host that has direct-linking features. There is no IP-relaying neccesary for this.

All this "security" was done by Jeff to prevent direct-linking to his server.

Hope this helps you in some way.. Look at your firewall, maybe you're missing something..

good luck

Thanks for the reply,

I still cannot get the server images to show up. I've tried another computer with a seperate internet connection with the same result, plus that machine did not have a firewall. Both machines are using standard default security settings as XP installs them so there must be something in IE that needs changing. I've tried entering http://www.cgarchitect.com into the trusted sites box and cookies box etc but no change. Again neither machine has an issue with any other cg site. Are there no clear instructions from whoever did the security here as to what settings are required? With default settings and two seperate attempts I can't be the first to find this!!! Cheers

Thanks for your reply with all the helpful info. Unfortunately entering the IP address hasn't changed anything. Rather baffling to still be denied access when no firewalls are running. It's really asking too much for users to compromise their security any further by altering default settings in IE. As an architect it's very frustrating not getting proper access to such a wonderful site. I dabble a little in 3D but it would be great to see the work of those dedicated to providing visuals. The site may be denying many others who just haven't been bothered to follow it up. Oh well, thanks for your ideas anyway.

Hi Raz,

I'm at a loss at to what is causing these problems on your system as I am running firewalls and XP and have not had to make any changes to my security settings. The only time I've seen problems is when people have a firewall that blocks HTTP REFERER Information and then it is a simple matter of telling the firewall that CGarchitect and it's IP are a trusted site. If you can hold out a few more weeks I'll be upgrading to a new forum software (Cross your fingers that they release the converter on time). Once this is done you will not only be able to upload images easier, but also view all images without running into security problems.

In Norton Anti Virus for those people who use it. You need to turn OFF your privacy controls, which is somewhere near you firewall settings.

This will do the trick, allowing trusted sites will only effect submitting forms etc. I could be wrong but turning privacy off worked for me.
