12ledd
I'm new here. This is a current project in progress. All questions, comments, and critiques welcome.
Brian Cassil
If these are conceptual studies then I would say they look pretty good. It's the kind of stuff I see a lot of grad students do in thier masters projects. However, if these are intended as final presentations in commercial work, then there is a loooooooot that needs to be done still. To mention a few things: Lighting - It appears that only standard lights are being used with no effort to show GI (bounced light). I see lots of black areas where no light is present. Generally, I try to avoid areas that are completely black or completely white. If you aren't familiar with how to render GI, there are lots of tutorials and tips in these forums on how to do that (and even how to fake it). Materials - It's difficult to say with the lighting being as it is, but I would say there is a lot of work there as well. Look to add some reflection to the granite, falloff reflection to the glass (reflection that increases with angle of incidence) as well as refraction, and some variation to all the textures by mixing in a noise or smoke map so they don't look so flat. Scenery - It appears to be a kiosk in a mall or something like that. Try taking some photos of the actual surroundings and compose your views into those photos. Paralax - Although this has been debated here in these forums, I think all would agree that with a building this short, there is no need for a "3 point perspective" view. Try to keep the vertical lines all parralel. Like I said, if these are purely conceptual then what you've done works. If they are to be presented to clients try the things above. Good Luck! 12ledd
I am very appreciative of the suggestions. I will say that at the moment the lighting is very preliminary and the materials are still up in the air as well. I look forward to sending on updates for more ccs. I have just started to experiment with mental ray and vray about 4 days ago. I have seperate file for each. I'm afraid of a time jam so I can always go back to the ususal scaline. GI is very new to me and it seems too time consuming for my industry. Thanks again
jtiscareno
Chris first things first, the paintings, the glass and the lighting look very good. But i agree with Brian that it looks very much like a conceptual presentation. Is it a stando alone building? or a tenant for a mall? But it look more like a sort of kiosk? And one last thing, the lighting on the floor in the last image makes the white base look likes it is ondulating.
12ledd
Thanks for the comments. It is a concept for a corporate exhibit that will go to tradeshows and it is also a design that may be adapted for a permanent retail install. Here is an updated interior view.
