MJL Imaging
Ok, here's the story, I'm modeling a custom home that has flared walls. It's a shingle style house who's walls flare out about 6 inches at the base of the second story wall, with trim below. I am looking for help on some ideas and or techniques on how to accomplish this. I'd attach a sketch on what it is I'm looking to do, but am not sure how to attach images. Any help would be greatly appreciated Regards, Mike
Brian Cassil
Click on the "manage attachments" button in additional options. I think seeing something would help us understand what your talking about. I'm thinking that lofting the walls would be the best way though. After lofting a cross section of the wall in question you will then need to boolean any fenestration in the walls. Boy do I hate booleans in max/viz though. One way to help with that is to create all the masses you are going to subtract and attach them to each other and then subtract them at once. Good Luck! MJL Imaging
I was afraid that was going to be my answer. I'm going to try to develop something simple to look at but you are catching my drift. that's what I'm looking to accomplish
William Alexander
The simple answer is lofting. Spline the craftsman style flare in a closed spline, brezier or line segment (can be less polys) the arc. Around the base of the 2nd floor wall create another spline and loft the flare. You could face model also using multiple or arrayed flare splines- attached together (Mesh or spline edit). Then convert to mesh or polygon and create faces based on the connected spline vertice. Hope it helps, sounds like a cool looking project WDA
MJL Imaging
thanks for the replies on this matter. I'll have the project posted to my website eventually, so you could take a look if you'd like.
Reitveld
you could just loft and then use the SCALE deformation modifier. That way the wall bases can be tweaked if the 6" goes to 12" without much work. Cheers.
