Ras
Hi Neill Sketchup doesn´t accept solids or anything like that - only faces. When working in Architectural desktop you can convert everything to mass elements and that´l work but only if you export to autocad 2000 format. Sketchup will not take 2004. Last recommends exporting to 3ds format from ACAD importing the 3ds file back into ACAD and saving as dWG(2000). This will explode all your solids to faces. Take a look at the Sketchup website - they have some great tuts...
Onslaught
You have to be in a 3D view in order to export the 3D model into AutoCAD. This works on Revit 6 (what version do you have)?
Richard McCarthy
Neil, open your 3D view in Revit, and now goto Export and export it. It's weird but that's how Revit work, when you are in 2D view (eg plan, elevation) it only export 2D view. In 3D view, it export 3D So, goto ANY 3D view, click File -> export -> DWG,DXF,DGN, export to DWG, remember to export to AutoCAD "2000" DWG file..., I think DWG exports better than DXF. (But the choice is yours, experiment with it. Another thing, sketchup do not support autoCAD 2004 yet, so don't export to 2004) Now, goto Sketchup, -> File -> Insert -> DWG/DXF, click the relevent units for importing it in, and import. Once imported in, click View -> Zoom -> Extent to see the model imported in properly. I am pretty sure this process even works with older version (eg. 4.5, 5.1, etc) but for 6.0, 6.1 it still works wonderfully. Another thing... when I goto ANY 3D view.. if you are exporting this to autodesk VIZ4, or 3DSMAX, the 3D View you chose to export to, eg with particular camera angle, it will also be exported. So if you already have a good 3D view setup in Revit, you can export the whole 3D model to DWG and get it imported to VIZ4 and load up the correct camera.
