greg w
I have purchased an GeCube ATI Radion 9600 pro All in Wonder card 128mb 8*AGP etc. for my new shuttle box with AMD 64 3200+ processer with 1gig of ram. I loaded my Archicad 6.5 program thinking that the fly through 3d graphics would be much faster and smoother now . What i found was that my old celeron (intel) Tosiba laptop with way way lower spec's seemed to do the 3d fly through with greater speed. This was very disappointing given the money i have spent. The card seems to work fine for "black hawk down" the game. The other feature of the all in wonder if find useful for other stuff i do. I don't understand. Does anyone have some advice? is it just a matter of settings? i checked the graphisoft site and the only requirements for archicad were at least 64mb and open gl, which would mean my card should be fine. doimus
Greg, ArchiCAD's OpenGL was almost pathetic until v8.0 and it still doesn't perform very well... it's still too slow and too buggy to deal with, so I reccomend to stick with software mode on your 6.5.... greg w
Thanks for your reply, a couple of questions though, what do you mean by software mode? and why would my low spec computer perform better? Thanks Greg
kris
I had some experience with Archicad, but my main software is 3dsmax. The best solution for both programs are profesional openGL graphic cards like Quadro from Nvidia or FireGL from ATI, but they are very expencive. The best solution for you is to visit http://www.guru3d.com and there you will find lots of articles how to modify your graphic card, ( your graph. card is for games ), in profesional one. I did that for my Geforce4 Titanium and it is damn fast in 3dsmax and Archicad. The best solution for you is to buy Geforce 5900FX and modify it to Quadro 3000 becouse that is fastest game card that can be modified in profesional one. The program for modifying is RivaTuner. You can buy 5900FX for 250$ and you'll get graphich card worth few thousand dollars.
kris
Nevjeruj ovom jer sere bezveze. nuno
Can i turn my ati aiw 9600pro to make it better for graphics like fire gl. hi greg, yes u can. i did it with my 9800 pro, but with no better results than with catalyst drivers (at least in 3dsmax). with catalyst and d3d its way faster than "maximum" drivers (dedicated ones for 3dsmax). i advise u to update to latest catalyst drivers... about archicad i dont know anything... cant help u on that one. c ya, nuno my specs: athlon xp 2100+ @ 2166Mhz 1.5Gb ddr400 twinmos gecube 9800 pro 128Mb with catalyst drivers 4.
