stefkeB
http://maxon.net/pages/dyn_files/dyn_htx/frm/00960_00961.html Maxon made an exchange plugin to host ArchiCAD scenes inside Cinema4D. It is similar to the VectorWorks exchange plugin. Very nice.

STRAT
cant comment. never used either. but we own an archicad seat and from what little i know of it i'm well impressed.
matt_vinoir
i remember talking about this a while back. i use archicad for modeling , its a very intutive and easy package to model with. vectorworks needs a lot more organisation to model with. if you don;t get everything sorted into layers and classes the model turns into a black screen with all the lines. it has plus points but archicad supports the lazy modeler better ( not that i am! lol) however, as an arch student i can't rate vecotrworks highly enough as a 2d draughter. simply the best i have seen by a long way. great tools and shortcuts make life very easy (archicad models go nicely into 3dmax too thou with the ml plugin)

stefkeB
Strat - Which in your opinion is the most versatile and useful software - Vectorworks or ArchiCad? I used both professionaly (and also AutoCAD). I prefer ArchiCAD by far. It's a full BIM tool (if that means anything to you) and that is the main reason why I use it. VectorWorks is not a full 3D-Bim solution, but it's the easiest and one of the cheapest drafting tools. It lacks a bit in the 3D-modelling. It has a better modelling toolset then ArchiCAD, but ArchiCAD makes 3D-models for buildings much easier and productive. And the 3D-model from ArchiCAD is also the base for all the construction documentation, which can't be said about VectorWorks.

ammacdon
i have just bought it. it does a good job of exporting textures. unfortunately it is not totally up to speed, as sometimes a few parts of windows or roofs were missing in my exported files and also the scale of objects in c4d is way off. i've been talking with maxon tech support and hopefully these bugs will be fixed soon. You might want to include that ArchiCAD costs 3 to 4 times more than VectorWorks - around €6000, if I'm not mistaken. And to return to the original question: the most versatile - for doing what exactly? Do you need a modeler that allows you to make 3D mockups? Or do you need all the extra data attached to BIM-based solutions? Cheers, BaRa

Can you explain, you say it lacks 3d modelling and also say it has better modelling toolset than ArchiCAD. We are considering to buy Vectorworks only for Architectural modeling not for BIM kind of Architectural need. Some reviews I read that Vectorworks has very powerful 3d modelling tools, nurbs , lofts etc.Our rendering module would be Cinema4D. What is your advise...
