kris
I will purchase few new PC's for render farm next few days and I am looking for best price/performance index. I would like to make test here that would be usefull to me and anyone with the same problem. I used 3dsMax 5.1 and Dragon_Character_Rig as a test scene. The scene is located in scenes/Characters/Complete directory. Dont change anything in the scene, except resolution should be 1280/960. My test PC is dual Athlon MP 1800+, 1GB RAM The time for one render of first frame was (( 138 sec.)) If anybody can spend few min. (maybe hours if you have slow machine:- ) for this test I would be grateful. Thanks in advance, Kris. http://www.VisualizationStudio.com

Sergio78
I used 3dsMax 6 for the test. My PC is a P4 3.0 Ghz, 1 Gb RAM, Quadro 4 750 XGL video card. What's your video card? The time for the first frame was 169 sec. Greetings, Sergio
kris
I have GeForce 4 Titanium but I have modifyed it to Quadro 950 XGL and with Maxtreme drivers its very fast. The video card doesnt affect rendering speed so its not important to this test. Thanks on your reply. Your PC seams very fast. Sergio78
Sergio L2 cache is 512, 533FSB. I have 2x4096 page file sizes and FreeRamXP Pro running. Free ram level was at 750Mb when render start. But those render times depends what kind of memory do you have and at what frequency are running. What´s "2x4096 page file sizes"? My CPU´s cache is L2 512 too, but 800 FSB HT, MB Intel 875 PBZ, 1 Gb DDR400 in dual channel, HD WD 36Gb SATA 10K Raptor. How can I improve the rendering time? Thanks. Greetings. Sergio78
How do you set FreeRamXP ? How can I do for what the 3ds max use more physical memory? Because it use 450 mb, when the free ram is 700-750 mb. Sorry, my english is not too good.
