doodler
Hello all... First image upload on here so please be nice. I created this image 2 years ago and I was thinking of re visiting old images with a view to improving them in photoshop with the skills i have today. Just wanted a few suggestions from you all on how you would improve this image. Thanks doodler
Iain Denby
Karl One of the problems with Photomontages is that the finished image is only as good as the original photo. Your photo shows a dull/grey day, and so your image shows similar characteristics. Also, you are showing too much of the existing scene. (perhaps you were asked to do so). I would have done away with the photomontage approach, and modelled the road and pavement. That way you can control the lighting and have a shiny, happy sunny day. The building it's self is fine. I've attched your image which has been cropped to give a stronger composition and added a foreground shadow for added interest.
STRAT
the render itself is good, but Dibbers's foot note says it all. thats nothing about the render as it's great, but if the photo is average, the montage will have a similar feel. another problem you've got here is that you've put peeps in with sunglasses and you've put in a sunny sky (dont use the standard skys like this, as it's cheesy) but the rest of the image looks like a dull and grey day. you also seemed to have fudged in some smudgy looking people shadows in photoshop. this together with the people being totally the wrong contrast detracts from the image. unless you become allot more skilled in photoshop and photomontaging in general, then i'd take Dibbers's approach and model the scene more instead of comping it. doodler
Thanks for you're comments, Dibbers, The Client was pretty heavy on this one, supplying the photo and demanding there new development to be shown in a perfect setting of a sunny day, nice green trees etc.... I see what you mean with regard to the ground shadowing.... Its always the case when youre working for someone where you haev to create an image to what they want to see and not what you want to show... Strat, thanks for your comments. nice to see they were constructive...

IC
I think the photo is bright enough. Is it not just the fact the sun is coming head on that makes it look washed out? Forces the simulated lighting to be a bit lame(imo).
