Can't say for sure but I would bet that there will be. I just went to the Autocad 2004 sales pitch and they said that Autodesk changed their mind on keeping the r-2000 file format the standard for 10 years. 2004 files are not compatable with 2000 must be saved-as. I am sure max 4 cannot read 2004 and I have a hunch that max 5 will be the same.

Hi

Had a good look at ADT4 last night. Vast step forward in terms of user interface and direct manipulation of AEC objects as well as providing project management feature to manage xrefs etc. Starting to hit the mark as a very useful architectural modelling and contract documentation package.

Aspects of Viz have been implemented more along the line of an Accurender type feature. (has the renderer, cut back material tools, radiosity, no modelling) The interface looks like Viz and textures are mapped within the style definition of the AEC object. A lot less flexibility in terms of material manipulation (we now have a material type of "architectural") but “out of the box” radiosity rendering of a type is provided.

I still think Viz/Max (or similar) will still be required for serious work. At this stage, Viz 4 cannot read 2004 format files directly (The dwg format has changed) but you can export 3D models into 2000 dwg format. I hope to get my copy next week so will have a far better idea after that,.
