Dining Room Test

Hello Everyone,

My first time posting any of my own work here, thought i would give it a try. More traffic here than other places. Better comments too. This is an interior test that I am working on, hypothetical room, all done in VIZ 3i. I can't convince the powers that be to upgrade. I have thick skin developed from years of art school, so please be very honest with any comments, I have no feelings toward this image, I just want to get better, as I am starting to do this type of rendering more.

Thanks in advance for any advice. :D

Travis,

Very nice modeling. Texturing is good, but could be better. Lighting is good, especially considering that you're using Viz3i. Here are some ideas that may help your image:

1. apply a low amount of noise to your diffuse wall colors. That will break up the perfect CG look

2. you really need a bump map on those walls - but thats just personal pref.

3. i cant tell if there is reflection in the floor, but a slight amount will add to the realism

4. that table top needs reflection - especially at the angle it is to the camera. take a look most any surface at that angle and you will see some reflection. Nice polished tables will definitely be reflective.

5. there appears to be sunlight coming in through the windows and shining onto the floor. With the type of background youve chosen, it doenst match - i.e. there would be no sunlight. Either change backgrounds or get rid of the sunlight.

6. Also, the environment/background you've chosen would not add much light to the scene in real life. This background appears to be an overcast later afternoon. You will need to rely more on interior lighting.

7. It appears that you are using omni lights. Dont do that. Use spotlights for all of your recessed lighting fixtures.

8. Turn the lights on in the fixture over the table.

This is a good scene, but it can be a GREAT scene with a few minor changes. I know that lighting with viz3i is tough. I think most of us were there at one point. Cant wait to see the updated image.

Jason,

Thank you for your input, that is the kind of thing I am looking for! I just have a couple of questions, hope you dont mind.

_ i am not familiar with how to add noise. I have a bump on the walls already, but at the low res for posting, it does not show up too good. but this noise sounds like it could help. just not sure what that entails.

-how do i get a reflection on the floor, I have tried everything that I know how to do, and it does not want to give any reflection. I agree, it would look great with just a faint reflection, not an overblown one. just cant seem to get it with a custom material.

again, thank you for your pointers. they are all very helpful.
