STRAT
well one of my books has pages of Gaudi's original hand draw plans/sections/elevations. certainly enough to model off. i keep promising myself one day i'm going to model the facade of the CASA Batllo. mbr
Given that this is CG Architect, I'll try to combine my fav with those that have greatly contributed to architectural visualization. 1. Zaha Hadid (Pioneer of the abstract, exaggerated look) 2. Thom Mayne (Morphosis) (Pioneer of the gray/semi transparent renderings) 3. Frank Israel 4. Frank Lloyd Wright (his diversity with media still astounds me! His colored pencil renderings are simply incredible) 5. Peter Pran & Carlos Zapata (great architecture, use of high end computers for animations - Alias/Maya about 5 years ago - although NBBJ could get the credit, I suppose). Richard Meier is up their, too, if only for his consistent quality.

mbr
Gaudi was one of the greats. I highly recommend going to the Sagrade de Familia in Barcelona (which should be completed by now). It's one of the most memorable architectural experiences I've had. The slightly abstracted representation of the crucifix was remarkable - it's a horizontal I beam cross that cantilevers out, with Christ hanging from it. Really special stuff, and however he got it all built, I applaud those that financed him and allowed it to be built. They've also got a small Gaudi museum in it, with all of his incredible models, drawings, and structural diagrams. A great city for architecture in general (Enrique Miralles/Pinos, Calatrava, Mies).
