Holy crap

just had a text msg from the missus asking if i'm free to get married on the 18th December this year!!!!!

Better than getting asking if you're free to attend her wedding...to your best friend!!!

Congrats, and try not to go overboard with wedding spending. It is tempting, but not always money well spent. Sure, tell a woman that you want to go cheap on her wedding day. We spent what was a lot for us (19 years ago!), but still cut costs where we could. Having it to do over, we would spent much less and do things much more simply, and not be in major debt as the start of our marriage. You can do things like have a reception at the home (or estate) of a relative instead of renting a place, have family pitch in to cook, etc. Not that there is anything wrong with the usual wedding trimmings, just that it adds up quickly, and its hard to say no to just one more expense, no, one more, OK, one more...

Best of luck!!!

Spend your money on the photos. At the end of it all, that's really the only tangeble thing you have to remember it all. And although you and/or your future wife will be having fits over the many small details that don't go quite as planned, don't worry about it as I can guarantee no one will care or even notice. ;-) My wife and I spent about 18 months planning ours and in heindsight there are so many things that were just not worrying about.

Strat, you better start with the invites, most of us here have been waiting for ours:)

My advice would be to delegate work on the day of the event. So much crap gets forgotten to do (who's taking out the garbage at the reception who's moving chairs etc) I assume you have friends ask them before hand to keep an eye out for ways to help.

Weddings are pretty stressful probably &d still that was the most stressful time for my wife & I (just doing the planning). I have to be honest I was stressed about the cash - I ended up letting her go and plan it all and I was really happy. She did a great job! Probably put more into that day than we did on a downpayment for our first house but no complaints. I think I just didn't want to spent that kind of money even if we had it.

Regardless if you spend a lot or a little I think you don't want to look back and say "Gee we could have done that better". Hopefully you never will get the chance.

Congrats EBIII on 19 years.

cheers guys. sounds like planning is important factor then. being an architectural artist i no understand this 'planning' word, so perhaps it'll make her happier if she plans most of it ;)

marry nisus??? you guys are nuts. thats a fate worse than a fate worse than death

Best of luck Strat!

Not a great one for ceremony (or planning) I got on a plane to Jamaica with both sets of close family. Someone over there planned the wedding for us and all we'd to do was bring a kilt and a dress.

Great holiday/honeymoon, great wedding.
