srv4u
Hello, I am new to these forums and this website, very nice. I am a certified graphic designer looking to get into the 3d realm and am very interested in cg architecture. I designed a 3d animated fyaround of a rec center for an architect firm using bryce and was paid $250 (i weeks worth of work). I currently use blender 3d but have worked with 3dsmax and bryce. I was curious if 3d game engines are used a lot in this world of cg architecture? I have used 3d game studio by conitec for about 2 years and got real good results due to the newest directx and static shadows they use. Now I currently use Reality Factory which is based on the genesis 3d engine which is older but has been updated to a little better then quake 3 game engine specs. Should I use 3d game engines or are clients more interested in fly arounds? I would think that 3d engines lend to more interactivity but the downside being the nonability to use on the web. Just curious on anyones thoughts, thank you.
ICO88
3d engines will be the future of architectual visualization. I use a software called quest3d alongside lightscape for my light maps and 3dsmax2.5 for modelling. I can use just about every single type of effect used in most high end realtime engines stencil shadows bumpmapping vertex pixel shaders ect. doing a fly through or a presentation in quest is simple and to create a virtual user controlled fly through is even simpler. i would like to work with a modeler to create realtime walkthroughs and presentations with quest any modelers especially those in the NY metro area please respond. Jeff Mottle
I designed a 3d animated fyaround of a rec center for an architect firm using bryce and was paid $250 (i weeks worth of work). Are you nuts! I know many firms that charge that much for 2 hours of work. Most would charge that in 4-5 at the very most. As far as 3d engines, check out this thread: http://www.cgarchitect.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=2;t=000212 Quizzy one of our senior forum moderators created a huge city VR with Quest 3d.
