trhoads
This is an exterior view of the pool for a hotel I am working on. Client wants to see how it will feel to be at the pool. Comments and crits are always welcome. Done in VIZ 3i. Thanks in advance.
Ernest Burden III
Client wants to see how it will feel to be at the pool. So be at the pool. Right now you are NEAR the pool, but it doesn't feel like you are AT the pool. Push that foreground table closer to the pool and go sit under the umbrella, using it as a framing element. The current view also has that overly heavy joint making a knife-cut down the left of the picture. And your building glass could use some life. The water looks good. Ricardo Eloy
There's something wrong with the shadows, isn't it? Seems to me they're going in different directions, I don't know... Also, the chair on the right casts a very strong shadow, darker than the umbrella's....Weird. Try to fix it, ok? [] Rick
leed
All of the above and The shadows look a bit odd. do you have 2 lights casting shadows? the chairs in the foreground have a really black shadow and the parasol shadow is not to bad, was the sky put in post render. Also the trees shadow looks really dark and the colour is a bit off, perhaps less saturation It will make a huge difference if you get reflections in the glass. and some irregularity it will never look that formal. It would be nice to be at the table with the parasol above but try and get some up light on the under to illuminate the underside a bit. Hope that helps Lee

trhoads
Here is a reworked rendering. I took some of the comments, and tried to apply them. I think some of it came off ok. Out of time for this one, so this will have to do. Thanks to all who tried to help out. It is much appreciated.
Brian Cassil
Better, but I think the main problem is still present and that is the glass on the building itself. It needs some reflection, transperancy and the panes should be recessed a little from the wall surface, even if you have to exagerrate the distance a little. Then throw some blinds/curtains at varying levels. This is a fair amount of work but will take the image from average to possibly very good. I'd say there are still some issues with lighting as well. Are you using radiosity or some kind of global illuminatin plugin. If not search the forums for tips on fakeing it. The shadow of the umbrella in the forground looks ok but the umbrella casting the shadow on the building is completely black. Kudos on the water though, don't change it a bit! Brian Cassil
Just thought of this too, move up under the umbrella a little more still and get the chair in the immediate foreground out completely and get a shadow in the immediate foreground instead. The umbrella shadow may work for that.
trhoads
Okay, this is definatley the last one. No more time to spend. Learned how to use a light dome today, what a pain. But I think it works effectively. Now I see the similarity to a lot of what I see in these forums. It is hard to loose the floating furniture feeling, but oh well. To respond to a couple of things, -the windows are supposed to be very close to the building facade. Client design detail. Not my favorite, but that is what they want, that is what I show. Remember, they pay the bills. -Too much reflection looked out of place, so I went for subtle. -thanks for the water comments. That one took a while. But I like how it turned out. It takes up the majority of the rendering time. Again, thank you all for your help. I appreciate it.
Ricardo Eloy
I know you have no more time to spend here, but you might find Delfoz's ring technique quite useful. I'll look for his semi-tutorial on that and post the link here later. Or, if you do not want to wait, you can do a search on "ring technique", on the Monthly Challenges forum. trhoads
I actually just finished testing out that techinque. Much easier to set up than the other i found. It works pretty good i think. Thank you for the tip though.
