What are you trying to do? You can get satallite images and map them onto terrains, you can paint them in Photoshop, etc. The mapping is simple--flat/ortho projection. What I wanted to know more specifically if anyone has any experience blending textures at specific areas of the geometry. I'm not talking about the blend material, but rather the vertex painting modifier or something like this. The project is an animation going up a winding creek, viewing the architectural project along the way. Where the sandy beach of the creek and the grass of the surrounding woods meet a nice blend should occur. At this point they do not. I thought maybe Max had some tools for this type of texturing or maybe there was a tutorial about it. The site is fairly big, so creating a texture map would be a big file and this might increase render time. hockley91 Posted May 26, 2004 Share Posted May 26, 2004 If I'm understanding what you are trying to do this would be my suggestion... Have the overall terrain map, that would be used for the initial shot and have the camera path do what you want it to do. Then as the camera gets closer to the site, have a more higher resolution texture map of the area and continue the original camera path. The idea here is to overlap two animations that can blend from the less detailed map to the high detailed map. You can do this in Adobe Premiere or other Video Editor. By doing this, you don't have to have one huge map file to work from. The first aerial shot just has to be detailed and sharp enough until you reach a point where as you get closer to the site, it becomes obvious that it's not very detailed. Then, the second texture map, takes over as you get closer because it is more detailed.
