Corrupted files

Does anyone have any tips on dealing with corrupted files. I'm having troubling opening existing Max 6 files. (plugins: speedtree, vray, seascape, lume tools)

I've tried merging everything into a new scene. It works while you're in the scene, but as soon as you get out of max and try to reopen, it won't open. No error message, just sits and thinks for hours and hours.

Please let me know of any possible solutions you may have come across in the passed...

Thanks

I had something like this once with VIZ 4, and the only way I was able to save my model was to merge in the shapes, but not ALL of the shapes. It took some trial and error, but I finally determined that it was a Rectangle shape that was causing the corruption. Once I knew that, I just merged every other shape into a new model, and everything worked fine.

Files are around 100 megs ( big, I know). If I delete everything out of the file and save it the file is about 70 megs or so. Why are my files this big with nothing in them? Anyone know?

Are you using stored Radiosity?

No. No radiosity. I'm using vray. I don't think it's a rendering issue. Something to do with geometry... i'm not sure. I have one main terrain object. I've done so many things to this one object (shapemerges, terrain, conforms) would this some how corrupt the file. Even if I merge everything or even just one from that file into a completely new file, the new file then becomes huge, takes a half an hour to save, can't exit out of max unless i ctrl alt del out.

Does anyone have any remedies...uh......or some good crack!

Crack??? ... Well what you could try is the following: merge your obejcts in a scene, select all objects and save the selection as a file.. It sounds simple, but you could allways try it... Then re-open the file of the selection you saved...

Did you try converting everything to an editable mesh too??
