Voice Recognition/Dictation software

Was just wondering if any of you have ever used this type of software. I was looking at Dragon NaturallySpeaking 7 Professional, but there is no demo to download, only a few reviews and the odd video. With the amount of emails I get, it woudl be great to speak them instaed of typing them even though I am a reasonably fast typist. Also, I'm hoping it will be useful for dictating and transcribing phone interviews for CGA.

Anyone have any feedback?

I have not used any personally, but this subject came up on the Datacad forum a few years ago (as a matter of fact it was me that started it--my father wanted to save time transcribing interviews) and several people used Dragon. One in particular, an architect from SoCal for whom I have a very high regard, had much praise for it. He had used it for some of his posts (ID'ed which ones) and they were well 'dictated'. A few people were trying to use it to talk their way through daily CAD work, which didn't work for lack of an interface to Datacad.

The only potential drawback is that people often speak differently than they write (not me of course) and that can show up in Dragon dictation as, not errors, just a different 'voice'.

In short, Dragon was highly reccommended as useful and effective, and it was demonstrated.

Jeff,

I seriuosly looked at it say, five years ago, For writing Construction Service Agrreements and Bids- the devils in the detials and specific lengthy language. Lotus had a fairly decent one at that time packed in with the "lotus Smart suite". Head phones & mic on, I started training it, but the need for p-e-r-f-e-c-t a-n-u-n-c-i-a-t-i-o-n drove me batty. Although I'm sure there where much better and today they have to be better, my question is how well do they deal with dialects and local voice inflections that come with like- take off eh, Ima New Yaker, y'all, all with related heavy local accents vs "proper annunciation". Seems like a quantum leap if I can't understand an assuie speaking perfect Queens english?

emails? checked them lately, hehehe. I keep thinking my isp's new mail server is eating the ones I just sent you. You maybe a fast typist but what about that dislexia of the keyboard thing you got going on?
