nisus
Hi All, Does anyone knows how to avoid corrupt files when adding architectural materials in a MR-scene? Max6 is constantly corrupting my files... I've noticed something weird (that I have not found in the manual yet...) When I select preset arch.mats the reflectance Avg. and Max. sometimes occur in red (usually black)... What does this mean? How can I avoid this? nisus
voltaire_ira
try updating your max 6 to sp1..i have no problems with max 6 and arch materials using mental ray! its really great! when the transmittance is colored red it means the material settings way above the normal values.(radiosity rendering)

For example:If you select in arch preset Plastic material his range of values for reflectance is 20-70 and you has 85 this value is out of range and is red. With Maps put down Rgb Level in Output with Colors make them more darker Arch Materials works fine with MR in VIZ 5(more or less the same as max6)
nisus
Hi all, Tnx a lot for your replies. You helped me out. In the mean time, I got another question. How do add falloff effects (fresnel e.g.) to a architectural material glass?? I mean in which slot do I place the map? (Is it necessary btw, or is it build in into the arch.mat. settings?) tnx & rgds nisus

joske
jow nisus the architectural mats should work fine with Mray... well most of the time that is sometimes max/mental ray does crash with them then just recreate the archit mats with a standard max mat. why the crash? no idea myself... but this happend to me only once or twice, and i use the arch mats all the time with mray glass in mray however is another prob you need to use cautic photons from at leats one light source in your scene to get transparent shadows trough your glass (read 'light and photons') to light up the interior with sun and skylights. same goes for glas objects and tables just try to make a simple room with window and glass, then a glass object or table inside the room... this is allmost undoable in mray... rendertimes go bananas if you get it somewhat fine compared to the same room whitout the glass in the window you can photoshop in some glass reflection in a seperate layer, but the transparent shadow underneed a glass table is to my knowledge very hard to achieve. so if anyone has ckracked that nut, please let us know!!!! groenten, phil
