Kroke
I have an architectural building I'm working on that has a lot of hand stacked flat rockwork. I wanted to apply a displacement map so that the edges appear to have an unsmooth surface. Can anyone lead a n00b to how this is accomplished? Also, I REALLY want to do this with the windows as well, just a super small amount so that the glass won't appear to be perfectly flat, but that it will have a slight irregular surface for reflection purposes. Please, any pointers are greatly appriciated... lovin' max... ~Kroke
stylez
seems to me that you should be using a noise map in the bump map properties ionstead of a displacement map. Try applying noise to either the mesh itself or to the bump map in ur material properties. I think it would work a lot better for u
Kroke
Hi, Yes I have a bump map of the brick in grayscale and it really brings out the mortise/joints well. However I want the whole texture to seem like it's 'rolling' or irregular. Am I going about this wrong? I need to keep the bump map that I have already placed there, however it may work for the glass? Help muh....
Jeff Mottle
I had a similar project with the rockwork and tried a lot of different things. I used a bit of noise and a displacement map. To create the displacement map I opened the rockwork bitmap and traced over it painting black on the gaps between the rocks and filled white everywhere else. It produced some ok results, but you might have some better luck. Give it a try anyway. I've attached a copy of the bitmaps I used.

Kroke
I thought about this method originally, but I don't like it, I want a surface such as that of a rolling river, the swells if you can picture it. That's what I want on the surface of the glass. Surely someone has done this?
