Look at Dell's, too, although those HP's look great, offer a great value, and have a HUGE screen! Only draw back is their weight and size. But if you want a versatile machine, there you have it.

I'd get at least 1 gig of ram, though. 512 will really slow your rendering down (unless you will never be rendering on it).

Damn, those do look nice, but I dream of a sub-notebook of such power. :)

I mean, those "super notebooks" with screens larger than 10 inches seem to be just too large to lug around, and pretty damn heavy too.... I would prefer a smaller screen and longer battery power. Sony's sub notebook seem to spring into mind, and it can last the whole 10 HOURS! Problem with those is that they are usually kinda under powered.. with no dedicated 3D chip or VRAM.

I recently read on this forum that the Dell docking station allows for dual external monitors. Does HP or any of the other brands have a docking station that would allow the use of multiple external monitors? Dual (or more) external monitors would be important to me in chosing a portable computer for 3d modeling.

Those HP notebooks look very tempting, 17" widescreen real estate would put a grin on my face. Of course it would sit on the desk and plugged in to an outlet all day!

John: Not sure about the docking stations, didn't find any on HP's website. It would be nice though, then you could get a smaller screen/longer battery life notebook instead.

It would be nice to find a small, light powerful laptop. For my use I need the fastest most powerful portable avalible. From my research it looks like these beasts only come with a large screens and big bodies.

Thanks,

John

ok. I´ve bought it. With 1 gig RAM. LCD is sweet, design nice. some tests are about to happen, but overall, its fast enough to work with in MAX. Gforce 5600 seems to be quite strong. It was around 2 000 euro, here in Czech republic.
