Hi all,

I have a question about light and Mental Ray. I am imported with file link dwg file from ADT2004 to Viz 2005. I use for lighting daylight system and radiosity and all was OK. Now I try use MR light omni and Mental Ray for render. Problem is that rendered picture is dark. What is the best solution for my problem? Increase light intensity or photon energy in Indirect ilumunation ???? Is there any differences ???

mr also uses the exposre controls of viz so try using logarithmic and check exterior daylight (if exterior) then adjust the physical scale ( value should be equal or greater then the brightest lightsource i.e. the sun. then increase the light energy in the global illumination tab of mr. also, play with the decay value, decreasing it will make your scene brighter.

hope that helps!

mental ray does not support IES Sun or IES Sky for rendering, so it does not support Daylight system.

You'll have to use a Standard Direct Light as the sun and a regular Sky. Then, for the sky you need to use Final Gather for it to render, since it's not supported by Global Illumination.

you could alos use ies sun in mental ray but you need to put a light infinite (base) shader and put in the mental ray light shader roll-out of the ies sun properties. instance that shader to your mat editor and then turn on shadows.

put a skylight and turn on final gathering.
