JAVB
How do I create a chain link fence using Autodesk VIZ4? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
kainoa
Do you need to model the chain link in detail? Or will the fence just be part of a larger scene? If it's just a part of a scene, you can get away with an opacity map. Create a plane object, apply a grey material (use a bitmap with a cross-hatch pattern as an opacity map). Then just create cylinder objects for the posts. Voila! If you reeeeally need to model the chain link details, then I would just model one section of the link by lofting a circle along a path. Then I'd use the array command to instance the section to create an entire fence. Hope that helps.
IC
Map these onto a flat plane. First one in the opacity or clip channel and the other in the colour and bump.
Buffalo Bills
Nice chain link maps! Did you create those or did you download them from a site? I created a chain link fence in a sipmle version of that. I think I like your better.
IC
I downloaded them from somewhere(can't remember where- it was a long time ago) They work really well though.
JAVB
The chain link fence I am trying to create is for a larger scene. Thank you all for your help and comments. I will give it a try. Thanks!
STRAT
aye, if it's not to be a close up and it's for a larger scene then opacity mapping is the only answer.
Psychoscorpic
Remember to make the Material 2-sided so that the fencing renders both sides if it goes around a corner, and to cast proper shadows.
