trhoads
Hello all, This is the latest project I am working on. Still developing, only one day of working with materials, and one for lighting so far. Planning on adding cars and such, but wanted to get some comments. Any advice, is good advice. Thanks in advance.
Jason Matthews
What program and settings are you using? So far the modeling looks good, but the image looks flat. Materials are looking decent, but flat and way too clean. Try adding some dirt to it. Pick an angle that describes the mood of the building. If it is about the pedestrian, then lower the view. The view needs to focus on something. So far, my biggest advice would be to understand what you want to achieve. Then go from there.
Brian Cassil
This has the potential of being a very nice image. The model is very well detailed (especially the roof), I like the trees, and even the grass texture (although I think it's a little too blue). Mainly you need to pick a better viewing angle, this one is terrible. All the things you would typically need to avoid are present: An akward hight, looking straight on, and the corners are at even angles. Once you get the viewing angle fixed post an image and then we can work from there.
Tim Nelson
The thing I'll comment on is the sky. It looks like its a picture of a sky that was taken looking straight up at the sky instead of the angle that your rendering is being shot at. The sky is actually one of the things that can make the biggest differences in renderings. If you don't have a good library of skies, just go out and start taking your own shots. And I agree with the other comments. Very good modeling!
trhoads
Thnaks for the commets everyone. I agree with most of it. I am using VIZ 3i, light dome with one direct light for sun. It is a new techinque for me, and I am not terribly happy with it yet. I will try to get some of these comments incorporated. I had planned on using a different view. I am not thrilled at all aobut this one the more I look at it. Again, thanks to all who were kind enough to take the time to look at it. I will post more as it develops. Frosty
Tint your lights. I think you have them set to white. Set the lights to a grey-blue with soft shadows and the sun to an orange -yellow with hard shadows.
trhoads
Posting an updated clip. I am liking this angle a little more. The building is so wide, it is hard to find a good angle. Ignore the sky for the time being, I am waiting on good weather to photograph the site. Too much rain lately. I am having trouble with the glass on the far left, and far right. I either get too much glare from the sunlight, or not enough, and it looks like a series of black holes. Advice would be great. As always, comments are welcome, and thanks in advance. trhoads
Another updated rendering. Still working at it, and would still appreciate comments. The glass is crap, it is driving me mad. But overall I am getting more and more satisfied with it. Thanks for taking the time to look and make comments.
Chad Warner
For the glass, I would try the architectural glass plugin that you can download from scriptspot. It has some really nice glass materials that are pre-configured. Also, it seems like you are still up a bit too high. I want to be able to see the bottom of the wall that you are standing in front of. Last thing- you might want to crank up the sky dome lighting or decrease the shadow density on your direct light...it is way too dark under the main entry canopy. -Chad
