Hi dudes and dudesses!

Ive been working on this for 3-4 days fulltime, and the deadline is this Friday morning.

Alot of work left to do, But I would like to get some crits n comments on a few testrenders I just did. Ill post more views when theyre done...

I think Ill go with a gradient sky instead of the usual bitmaps on this project, I like the "clean" feeling it gives the renders. And I think it goes well together with my no-texture-3d-people, and the blocky bushes...

oh well... give me hell. This is the biggest project Ive done, and I really wanna make it look good despite the tight deadline.

btw... I know the trees look funny in one of the views... somethings wrong with the plugin (ml_treeshop) so whenever I try to get them to face that camera, everything goes mad and I have to restart MAX. That will ofcourse be fixed one way or the other until the final renders.

Ok, a few things stick out to me...

Sky - make it a more dramatic gradation, darker at the top, whiter at the bottom. If you look at some pics, you'd be surprised at the change, I know I always am.

Composition - I'd focus more on the building. The trees, peolpe, and bushes are taking all the attention.

Buidling - hard to tell 'cause it's so far away, but I'd make the glass more opaque and reflective, esp. if you don't have time to add things on the interior.

People and bushes - I would think a decent grass texture (making it grass on the ground) would do more for the presentation than awkward bushes. Focus more on the building and let the bushes/grass be 'there' and not the highlight. Same goes for the people. I wouldn't focus on them, with them being abstract.

That's it. I guess some of this my critique has to be looked at from a photo real point of view. If you want an 'abstract' image, then I'd play with the transparency of the trees, people, bushes, etc. I still think the focus should be more on the building, though, assuming that's what this is about.

If I were you, I'd just PS in the people and trees. It takes a lot of time to get an image to look 'right' for the render, with no post work. That way you can adjust them, too (light, saturation, transparency, etc.)

It will get there with a few changes, I think. Post your progress, and good luck.

Cheers.

thanks mbr!

first of all, about the composition... The building IS the main thing in this model, but there will be other pics where its more in focus. (some close-ups of the entrance etc). Dont know if any of these pics will make it to the final renders yet...

Ill play with the gradient sky, thanks for the tip!

I dont have the time to add a detailed interior to the building, but Im gonna put up some of the main walls, just so you cant look straight through it.

Ill se what I can do about the bushes.... I know they look like LEGO now. I think Ill have to have some kind of bushes there, cant just throw them away, but I really dont know how to make them look good without getting insane rendertimes... not very comfortable with pasting stuff in photoshop but maybe thats the way to go.

thanks again!

i like the blocky bushes. i think they work great with the 3d people. they have a nice stylized look to them. but you need to make the trees work in the same manner. the bushes and people have an illustrated feel, and the trees have a photo real feel. make the trees have an illustrated feel also.

....and fill out you horizon line. even if it is with jibberish that does not mean anything.

....and i agree on increasing the gradient.

here are some more pics from the same project....

There are still some things not modeled in these pics. (a roundabout (is that what you call them?), some grass-areas, and some more bushes, and more) And I´ll throw in some simple car-models and more people for the final renders.

the deadline is closing in way too fast, so I cant promise I have the time to implement your suggestions in the renders. But crits n comments are allways welcome! If i dont have use for it in this project, Im sure it´ll help me in future ones.

Thanks crazy! I see what you mean. Im not sure I have the time to change the trees, but thats a good idea... They dont fit in with the rest of the scene as they look now.

I´ll fix the horizon too, not sure what to put there, but probably just some more trees/bushes/whatever.

And the gradient will be stronger.....
