Sassmouth
Hi, All. I'm trying to re-create this image on the left (mine is on the right), but there's some subtle effect going on that I cannot quite figure out. Some of the elements seem to glow. My scene uses vray lights on 4 sides, no GI. I suspect this glowing, "black light" effect must be something in post-production? I'm comfortable with PS, but haven't used After Effects, so perhaps it's something there? Thanks for your input. Steve
mattclinch
is it not just a falloff diffuse material that goes white at steep angles. i know its a commonly used technique to replicate macro photography. similar to this... http://gfx-3d-model.blogspot.com/2008/11/realistic-electron-microscope-material.html

Sassmouth
Hi, Matt. This is great; it's exactly what I was looking for. I'm so used to rendering with lights that I'm sort of blind to the possibilities of rendering without them. Please excuse that painful pun, but it's true. Thanks very much! And, Nicolas, I'm not sure if you were referring to my work, but if so, thanks. Steve
