chuck
so does anyone out there have a way to accurately scale brick in max? i'd like something more precise than estimation, but it seems like this would all depend on the size of a given texture. usually i just look at a given elevation and count the rows of brick, then eyeball it. i think i'm usually within 1/2 an inch for the whole wall. my boss wants a better solution, so if no one knows of a better way you wouldnt be breaking my heart... thanks, chuck
Tim Nelson
Well sorry to dissapoint you but there is a better solution. Yes, everything depends on the texture map you are using and your uvw mapping. Count however many bricks accross and down in your map to figure out how large the real world size is. So if you have 4 bricks across that are 12" long than that means the real world size for the map is 4' wide. Then in your uvw, you would make the length & width 4'. Do the same for the vertical count. Is that what you were after?
Tim Nelson
Oh, and I forgot. Then sometimes to make the brick line up where you want it, you have to use the "gizmo" & 'move' to adjust your uvw placement.
chuck
yeah, that makes sense. it would be nice if the arch mat's in max came with size information so it would auto scale...wouldnt that make things a bit easier? how many times in the WIP section do we see poorly scaled bricks? thanks tim... chuck
