hardcak
Hi all, I am a relatively new user to Rhino/Vray and trying to recreate the material and steel effect for the attached images. It’s a dirty/grainy steel effect. I tried to use different texture maps (grainy steel) but they don’t give the same or as good results. I think I need to approach this without using a texture map as I think the examples are. I think this render has been created using a very un uniform bump map and color map?? Maybe. Can anybody recreate this material? Any help appreciated Edited June 10, 2010 by hardcak missed attachment
erickdt
Looks like a few blended noise maps with some VRay dirt maybe mixed in there. That's how it would work in MAX at least... E
StevieBoy85
Check out http://www.vraymaterials.de Really this material would be pretty easy to make from scratch. and i would recommend doing it so that you learn. But if you ever don't have the time.. well that's what this site is for.
hardcak
Thanks, but I cant make it from scratch and I am one for trying. vraymaterials.de is for Max and I use Rhino which has limited materials on the web. I have tried lots of metal effects but I cant match this. Never heard of a dirt map..will look into this but I dont think Vray for Rhino has this! I will keep trying
Jason Matthews
Is there a mix or blend map in Rhino? The way I would do it is to use a blend map and put a Vray Map with a grey color in the "material 1" slot, a Vray Map with a lighter color in the "material 2" slot, and a dirt map in the "mask" slot. A dirt map is typically an image that has a pattern (mostly random). The white color (I believe) is the opaque and the black color is the transparent. Any grey tones are different variations of transparency. Then adjust the reflection values, bump, etc. for both the material 1 and 2.
hardcak
Thanks for the advice! I have been playing around with blending 2 grey tones. I cant really match this effect. If anybody can create a good dirty steel effect as good as this in Vray/Rhino (without using a texture map), I would be happy to pay you via Paypal.
