Loft acting strange

Trying to loft a 'traditional' chair leg, however i've drawn my shapes needed for each stage, but when i select the path and choose 'get shape' the shape seems to flip round 180 degrees for the loft and for the life of me i can't see how to get it to follow the path in it's current rotation

see the picture for a quick example

i want the path to remain that shape, but i want the hump on the profile faceing the other way like the profile shows that i used to loft

Hi Dave. Here's what I understand about lofting:

If you select the shape first and then 'Get Path', it will loft the shape along the path, originating from the shape and moving perpendicular

If you select the path first and then 'Get Shape', it will loft the shape along the path, originating from the 1st vertex of the path and moving towards the 2nd vertex

I think in your case you need to apply a Reset Xform if you have rotated your shape/path otherwise it reads the original orientation.

If you don't have a varying cross section you could use a sweep modifier and Use Custom Selection, then alter the angle if needed.

I tend to avoid lofts + booleans in Max and stick to bare bones modeling.

Loft's are generated based on the orientation of the profiles pivot point. If it doesn't face correctly, all you have to do is select "shape" from the loft sub-object menu, grab the shape at the end of your loft and move/rotate it to adjust it's sweep along the selected path.

I find it much easier just to create the loft then edit the shape's position as opposed to trying to adjust the pivot on the profile before creation because that forces you to guess and check the outcome.
