Can anyone, ANYONE tell me how to change 2011 3d max Material/Map Browser look like 2010? IMHO this new material/map browser is completely RETARDED, it frustrates me so badly.

In 2010 and below - I just press M, i select get material, i choose my folder and .mat file and i press on and i have my bump, diffuse selected automatically under maps it and its done, i assign it to the material.

In 2011 - I press M, i select get material, I press the eject button, i select the open material library, I choose my .mat file and press open, now I have there tabs like material, maps, scene materials, sample lots and my .mat file tab "carpet-blabla.mat"...

I go under maps then and i select bump and press on the NONE, and select bump.jpg, then i go back to maps and select diffuse color and press NONE and choose other jpg file right? But it f****g wont show it on the viewport.

In 2010 and below it choosed and assigned bump's and diffuses automatically, you didn't had to f*** around like that and its completely confusing when you are use to it with the old way.

So ANY ANY possibilities to change it back like in 2010 etc? I would LOVE that person.

New one doesn't make any sense to me.

Slate Material Browser is a quite versatile utility once you allow yourself for new ideas and approaches. Anyway to get mack to the old Material Editor just click and hold the material browser button in the main menu bar. It will expand and let you choose the material editor. Once changed standard button 'm' will open the old editor again until slate is fired up again.

if you would like to change back to the material editor like Max2010 - just click on Modes and then just choose Compact Mode

i think Slate editor will take a bit of getting used to - but for visual people, its a great way to review the structure of indiividual materials

good luck

I agree with your problem with Material/map browser

HERE we talking about MATERILA/MAP BROWSER "NOT" Slate material editor (dunno why ppl comment without read correctly everything), all know that the Slate mat is a great thing, but the NEW Material/map browser...IS ORRIBLE!

Also I got a problem with some mat library that I opened, I'm not more able to close it...Why Autodesk change the thing that are good?

The chang cam made only for the material map to slate map and vice versa, but the new Material/Map browser is always the same.

Pls Mr. Autodesk...go back to the old one :)

Related to this thread-

I'm trying to modify a rendering that was started in 2010. In order to clean up the model, I merged the old project into a new 2011 file, and brought the materials in through the slate editor. I have around 30 materials to edit, and have not figured out a "quick" way to navigate up and down the tree. I'm currently trying to edit a bump map, but don't see a button in the slate editor that will allow me to easily jump back up a level?

I had hoped that switching to the "compact" editor might be a solution, but my materials from slate don't seem to be showing up in it. I only use Max once every 2-3 months, so I'm having to re-learn every time. I can see a lot of advantages to the slate editor, but today it is making what might have been a quick change very difficult.

any tips from anyone who uses the software more often would be greatly appreciated-

happy friday-

Michele
