datacrasher
I am looking to make a deep sea without using the box or a plane like in a video game i have seen some tutorials but they are using a box or a plane is there any other way to create a deep sea without using any of these? -MerlyN-
well... 200m below sea level all light fades away, so... turn off ambient lighting and add some fog to your spotlights. Jokes aside, what boxes or planes are you talking about? Can you elaborate your project a bit more?
datacrasher
In max there is only 2 boxes and 1 plane the 2 boxes are the normal box in the standard primitives or the other is the one is in the extended primitives thats called the chamfer box. none of these will do because the plane in only a plan because you cannot build depth and the two boxes wont do because that would look silly if a person is swimming around in it say he/she dives you wont able to see what he/she is doing... If you look at a photo of the sea you no it's not a box of a plane there is a wave but i will need something to bind it to Edited June 26, 2010 by datacrasher
-MerlyN-
Yeah I know what a box, chamferbox and plane are. I just dont quite get, what those have to do with an ocean... do you want to use those to simulate the water body? If so, then I'd say it depends greatly on what kind of scene you're after. For underwater scenes I'd got with fog and adjusting ambient lighting to the depth we're at. for above sea level scenes I dont see, whats wrong with using a plane as the ocean level... Max doesnt have an ocean simulator as maya has, so you will have to depend on faking the surrounding.
datacrasher
Nils Create a plane and then use the walkthough tool in the perspective view when you get under the sea it does not look right because you see is the perspective box with a real sea you are still swimming in the sea
-MerlyN-
Ok. Now I get it. I cant think of a real way to make this in one go, but as it sounds like youre planning an animation there's no need to IMO. Create a scene for the above sea action and another one for the below sea scene, then combine them in post. Use a fancy splashing wave dive to cover the transition. Thats how I would do it. datacrasher
Not an animation yet Nils. first i need to make a the deep sea and make the under water buildings. I know how to make the buildings
-MerlyN-
Ok, I see... a couple weeks ago Brian Zajan posted this tutorial for an underwater scene on twitter. I havent tried it myself, but the preview of the final result looks nice and might be helpful.
