crating displacement maps?

Hello, I'm looking for a software or tool that allows me to create displacement maps and bump maps!

Would be great if I could - for example - model a surface in 3D and have a software that would convert this surface into a grayscale displacement map picture... Is there anything like that? If not, how do you create displacement maps?

Try adobe creative suite...it can do much more than that!

Try software called CrazyBump...does normal maps too.

In some cases, you can model up what you want and render an orthographic view Zdepth image to use as displacement.

There is a plug in for Photoshop that is called NVidia NormalMap Filter which is very easy to use and creates very nices maps (and it is free). Crazy Bump I have used in trial version and is great, but did not end up buying it.
