STRAT
that actual reflection looks motion blurred in photoshop. (cant comment much on max these days, but in C4D i'd use a falloff map to diminish the reflection)
rivoli
the picture comes from neil blevins' web site: http://www.neilblevins.com/cg_education/aniso_ref/aniso_ref.htm the article itself is quite clear about anisotropic reflections, i guess the effect is strongly related to the test version of brazil or ghost used to render the image. i don't think it was produced by max, so if you can't use renderers such as brazil or vray (which both have glossy reflections), then you shold go for a very fine bump map. anyway, here is a thread you might want to check in the splutterfish forum, it was just about that picture: http://forums.splutterfish.com/viewtopic.php?t=2989&highlight=anisotropic&sid=e82ecaef80b6eac96ced92203363699d
STRAT
the blurry method can be quite effective. i did this test in C4D some time back -
anvaraziz
can we do anything in Vray.. to get these kind of anisotropic reflection... ?
rivoli
as long as i know vray has its own glossy reflections.
rivoli
here you can find a glossy reflective material (aluminium like) set up by natty: http://www.chaoticdimension.com/forums/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=6580&highlight=glossy+reflections as for the neil blevins' image i'm afraid there's no "perfect anisotropic refletions" button to hit, neither for vray nor for brazil and any other renderer. i think that once you have a renderer capable of producing glossy reflections the main part of the work it's up to you. mbr
Final Render can also make true blurry reflections when done correctly. They look great, but take a lot of processing power.
