JamesL
If you're using Vray, go to the Global Switches rollout in the render settings and check 'Override Material' - fill the slot with a plain grey/white material (a default vray material works fine). Causes a problem if you have real glass windows as they will be grey too - so either hide them or exclude them in the Override option.
Tommy L
Use the material override in the render panel (Global Settings). Drag whatever material in there from the mat editor. Looks like the example you posted either uses an edge texture or used toon render in the environment settings. Using the override you will not lose your materials. I use used more often for testing lighting than anything else. Or just giving the client something to look at whilst Im doing stuff.
JamesL
In actual fact its similar in Mental Ray too - its in the 'Processing' tab under the 'Translator Options' rollout.

JamesL
Yeah, Vray toon is one option - as Tom said, the other good option is to use VrayEdgesTex in your Override material (drop in in your diffuse slot, tweak the colour as you like...) - I'd recommend changing the Thickness to world and adjust the scale accordingly (probably will require a test depending on your units setup)
