Chamfering Problem

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

I've got a problem with edge chamfering in 3ds Max that I hope someone can help me with. I have included simple images to illustrate what I am talking about. If I create a depression in a surface using a negative extrude (ex. a stream or dirt road) and then try to chamfer the edges around it, the chamfer occurs in the opposite direction. I have also found that there are two edges created in the same place, and welding them doesn't solve anything, it only complicates the problem.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Justin

Those images might not be the best examples, but there are no angles, it is just a boolean made from plane and a box, using Cut>Split. The new polygon made by the box is extruded in the negative direction, and then once I try to chamfer the edges around the "hole" that is made I encounter my problem.

I agree with abmitalia. Its a simple model that can be modeled without booleans. Just start with a box, put an edit poly modifier on top, or just convert it to editable poly, inset the top polygon, adjust the vertices created by the inset, finally extrude the polygon (where the hole should be) in negative direction. You end up with a clean model this way (all quads, no N-gons like in your case), so chamfering any edge(s) won't be a problem.
