Devin Johnston
Like it says I'd like my default library location to be a network drive, how do I change this?
Crazy Homeless Guy
WHAT I DESCRIBED BELOW DOES NOT WORK FOR MAX 2011 I use.... Customize - Configure User Paths. Then I re-path to where my assets are on the network. One thing to note though, I don't work with project folders. I am not sure if working with project folders would alter this process. For example... Images = \\group\hok\SF\Resources\Render Farm\Textures Import = \\group\hok\SF\Resources\Render Farm\+ UNC Paths Photometric = \\group\hok\SF\Resources\Render Farm\Photometric Materials = \\group\hok\SF\Resources\Render Farm\Materials Scenes = \\group\hok\SF\Resources\Render Farm\+ UNC Paths Etc... Etc... You will notice I keep a directory called UNC Paths. This directory has windows shortcuts to where my various projects live on the server. I do this because we try and keep all project files located with the architecture files for backup and organization. Keeping a directory of shortcuts allows me to hit file open, and then be presented with a list of projects that only require 1 click to access rather than sorting through project directories. Not sure if this is what you meant or not. Edited July 9, 2010 by Crazy Homeless Guy
Devin Johnston
What I want is when I select "Open Material Library" from the Material/Map Browser for it to open up to the network location where all the material libraries I've created are. I tried changing the Materials location under Configure User Paths/File I/O to that location but it's not working.
Crazy Homeless Guy
Hmmm... Mine currently does that with the process I described above. I have my materials pathed to a location on the server. When I hit open material library, it opens into the server directory. Likewise, when I go to assign a texture, it opens to the texture library on the server. Devin Johnston
I'm using Max 2011 how about you?
Crazy Homeless Guy
2010, we havent switched yet. I just tried it on 2011 and I appear to be having the same problem. When I try to open a material library it picks some random directory.
Devin Johnston
Exactly!
JamesL
Don't know about changing the default path but the best workaround is just create a shortcut in the folders it opens into... I've created shortcuts in most of autodesks default folders (maps, material library, import etc)...I might be stating the obvious!

Devin Johnston
I don't think that will help with the problem we're having.
-MerlyN-
Well, Win7 has that built in in its library folder system...
