Assigning a static IP

Recommended Posts

I dont like leaving my machines running 24/7. I turn off the farm when its not in use. My server tends to pick a new IP address every time its reset, so Id like to assign a static one.

I tried doing it, but it would not then get on the network. Im assuming its something to do with the router?

Im a klutz at networking. I have:

10 machines hooked up to a LinkSys 16 port 10/100 ethernet switch

2 x W7 (server and 1 workstation)

8 x xp64 (farm)

I just want the server static (I think) so the nodes dont lose the vray license / maps etc.

Any pointers would be very helpful.

Tom.

I use static IP....I've had some problems in the past using names.

if you still want to do it is very simple, only go to Network Connections....select it, properties and there is one named IPv4, Properties and edit your static IP....for example I have my rendernodes in 100's....usually if you have wireless devices they take the first numbers available starting in 1...to me is easier keeping my network in order so if there is a problem is faster and easier to fix it.
