chow choppe
hi everyone we have got a new project from a security providing company. in this we have to develop 3d models of certain buildings which they have to provide security for. they want these 3d models to help their teams in case of attacks/emergencies. They should be able to view the model of the building as a whole and individual floors also. so that they can make strategies of protecting the building. Now we have to guide them how they can view these things. we model in cad or max so we have to tell them do they need to buy 3smax or cad to view the models. or like we use dwf viewer to just view cad files, is there any 3ds max model viewer? any other suggestion to make it more organised so that they can switch between floors. view the complete building. walk around the building. orbit around it. Maybe we give them something on flash or swf format to switch between floor views. we are confused yet how to go about it. Developing the models is not that big deal but how the client is able to use these models is majore problem Please help us with your suggestions. mattclinch
you can view 3d models in dwf viewer, no? edit - it might be called 'design review' now http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/pc/index?siteID=123112&id=4086277
Stephen Thomas
Yes, Design Review is free and can be used for this purpose. It also supports layers and cameras so you could potentially turn whole sections or floors of the building on and off. It only uses default viewport lighting, though you can get round this by baking your lighting into your textures.
JonRashid
You can even embedd your .3ds files into an acrobat document make them viewable by anyone.
