Stephen Thomas
Whatever happened to it? I thought it was a really good idea, haven't had anything through for ages though and the submission page seems to give an error message now. Has it been discontinued? Crazy Homeless Guy
Perhaps a CGarchitect tip of the week should be started. I think simply getting your name in the news feed would be enough incentive for many without the need for prize giveaways. http://forums.cgarchitect.com/36084-vismasters-tip-week-whered-go.html
Stephen Thomas
Cheers Travis, I vaguely remembered reading something a while back but couldn't find it. I suppose the problem with resurrecting it might be that it's yet another job on top of the many things that Jeff already manages. There's no reason why tips can't just be posted in the forums I guess, just means that you lose the quality control and they're harder to track down. I might consider the forums to be a huge collection of tips... people looking into Vray read the vray section, MR guys and gals read the MR section, but like you say... the quality and validity varies greatly in some cases. I do think though that generally, the quality of what is found on the CGA forums is pretty good. Most of the junk gets shot down pretty fast... Stephen Thomas
Very true James. Though in general the format of the average thread is someone looking for answers to questions or solutions to a problem. The good thing about the Tip of the Week was that you were getting answers to questions you might not have thought to ask!
jinsley
You're right. Having a dedicated forum for TOW would be good as long as it dealt with subjects outside the norm, as in something you couldn't read in the manual or google in 2 mins... I wonder if TOW would coincide with the tutorials section... and if maybe more attention needs to be paid to developing the tutorials section as well. You need to have reliable people who are able to put together quality reference material (who tend to be the people who are swamped and have no time they wish to dedicate to producing such material) donate time and author some walk-throughs of the procedures we don't all use every day. Justin Hunt
A quick and possibly simple breakdown of the Viz-pro of the week might be nice. Maybe a few words on the thought process or special considerations taken into account for that image. Just a thought jhv

Agreed - that's what I like about Ronen Bekerman's blog - loads of 'making of...' features. I'm sure I've learnt something new from each one I've read! Yes, there is a whole group of guys (Peter Guthrie, Ronen, Bertrand Benoit, Jeff Patton, etc.) who's sites make for very good reading when they get updated... and always contribute to my knowledge base in one way or another.
