Andris_B
I have a 3d model done in AutoCAD Architecture and I need to export this model to Archicad...and it seems that the best way of doing that is by exporting/importing 3d model in IFC format...it works great but I have a problem that I just cant solve...when I import my IFC 3d model in to Archicad there is some sort of problem with model curves...everything looks good except the curves...they are no longer a curves but a straight lines trying to represent a curve...this doest look right and not the way it looks in AutoCAD... It must be something to do with AutoCAD IFC file export settings...but I cant seem to find them...Is there anyone who has some soft of experience with IFC file exports from AutoCAD Architecture? If yes...then how do you export these file so the level of quality is the same of similar to AutoCAD 3d model...? Many Thanks!
TheAllusionisst
Try changing the setting "FACETRES" in autocad to 2 or something instead of the default .5 and export it again.
Andris_B
Thanks for the tip… It’s strange… similar topics have been posted a lot already on this subject but really I haven’t found a good explanation how to increase IFC export quality…unfortunately changing "FACETRES" value doesn't work fro me…but thanks for this tip anyway… If anyone is interested in this topic then here is a description from Autodesk about IFC exports from Autocad Architecture… http://images.autodesk.com/adsk/files/modeling_for_ifc_with_aca_-_updated_for_aca2011.pdf It looks like it is something to do with actual Display Settings in Autocad and IFC uses these settings for 3d model export... I personally don’t understand how it really works…I have changed display settings and did a lot of test exports but unfortunately for me it doesn't work…in this description from Autodesk there are really no clear explanations how exactly these display settings should be configured… But I’m sure there is a simple way of doing this…hopefully some of you know how this can be done… but one thing did helped me a bit...by changing the scale of the model before IFC export it does help...if initially your model was in millimeters then by changing drawing units to meters for example IFC will export very nice 3d model from Autocad...in this example model qualiity will be incresed 1000 times and 3d curves then looks good...but be prepared for a new problem...in Archicad there is no such thing as a scale tool that could get your huge model to its original sizes...resize tool works for 2d objects only and the only way of resizing this model is by saving it as an object which I don't recommend because it is already getting a bit too complex or just by changing this new model TransMatrix settings...just replace this new transmatrix dimensions with original dimensions of your model...this works but there must be an easier way of doing it...
