braddewald
I have heard people recommend just creating grass during post, but how would you do that in photoshop?
wasteland giant
most jobs don't need 3D grass and it adds nothing. Google a patch of grass and comp it in.
Stephen Thomas
Photoshop also has a grassy looking brush. You can use this with either the clone tool or by painting in a layer mask to give a more realistic edge to your grass areas. I use this method a lot to make displaced grass look more natural or to make non-displaced grass look 3d. By adjusting the scattering and random rotation etc. you can get good results. Bwana Kahawa
I tend to overlay a photo of a field taken from the same angle (using blending modes to pick up any lighting and shadows), then use the grass brush with clone tool to rough up the edges. Does the job fine most times.
FlytE
I use grass photos in most exterior renders I do. I will also combine it with displacement though and as a point of note I tend to 'overlay' the displaced grass over the field photo that I have used, rather than the other way round. I find you retain more accurate GI lighting and shadows when you apply the rendered grass onto to the photo, rather than applying the photo onto the rendered grass... if you get me... eg: http://forums.cgarchitect.com/40587-east-kilbride-residential-2.html
jinsley
go to google, search for images with the large size checked and type in golf course. Should give you many images to pick from with different lighting conditions... then just comp it in. Fooch
My trick is to use a few huge grass layers (golf courses, fields etc) and mask them in with the grass brush tool. (plus some custom grass brushes) That way you can get variety and control.
