Architecture or Architectural Computing? That is the question...

Hi guys,

 

After some friendly advice... I'm currently doing a Diploma in Architectural Technology (technical drawing, CAD, Revit etc.) and the plan was to go to university afterwards to do a degree in Architectural Computing. However I've been contemplating doing a degree in Architecture instead as I can't call myself an architect without it.

 

I have strong interests in rendering, modeling etc. but do I really need to go to university for 4 years to learn how to do that?

Typically no REAL money in either so pick the area you enjoy doing the most. As they say, "Do the job you enjoy doing and you will never work another day in your life"!

Depends on if you want to also become an architect or just specialise in 3D. If you just want specialise in 3D, a degree in architecture would be pointless. There are several colleges in Sydney that you can learn 3d and only take 1.5 to 2 years or just use tutorials online. There is a lot of training material out there now. Just having the Diploma in Architectural Technology (which I also do) will be a big advantage in this industry.

I kinda want to have both skills. What colleges in Sydney teach 3d and how much do they usually cost etc.? Did you get your Diploma at Wollongong TAFE?

yes I did my diploma at wollongong tafe. there are several sydney colleges, like MAD Acadamy, Enmore Tafe, Qantm College. Some of these have short courses just for Architectural.

Nice, I'm there aswell. Did you have Gaz Pemberton as a teacher?

 

The courses offered at those colleges, can I go into them knowing next to nothing? Did you do a college course?
