What video card to replace an ATI 5770...

Recommended Posts

Good Evening...

I have a pretty new pc - medium hardware configuration - to use with max /vray modeling and rendering.

From the first minute I had LOTS of problems with the video card, an ATI 5770 ...

first we thought that was a driver problem.. but the problems continued...

Reading some forums appears that there are some series of the ATI 5770 with hardware problems...

according to the support I flashed the bios of the card, but with no good results.

I was ready to pick another card in warranty, but the local reseller said that he's having lot of problems with this video card , and suggested to me to change brand of card.

What kind of card should I take replacing the 5770? I want to remain in the same range of price, but I am really upset with ATI, and I was thinking of a card with the CUDA options... that's a bad a idea?

Please suggest!!

thanks in advance, and forgive my basic english

Gabriella

I don't know about everybody else, but I'm actually on vacation :) So I don't have much access here, but maybe you could get a Geforce 460 for the same price ballpark as the 5770...

I see you're in Italy. I'm in Vernazza right now :)

Uao ... I would stay in Vernazza too this morning ;) How is the temperature? Here is really hot...

I'm near Milan now , but in the next days I'll go to Naples and Sorrento .

Thanks for the advice for the video card... my 5770 is re-starting to do artifacts and I really need to replace it as soon as possible...

Now I'll go to see how good are the 3d benchmark for the 460 geforce... ;)

How about a Quadro fx? (1800 for example..) Are they a good value ?

thanks again,

Gabriella

Buone Vacanze!!

Please look at the CGA news graphics card evaluation article that we did with Jeff Mottle. I think it may help you. Based on our studies I think there are numerous options but for about the same price the FX 580 would be a decent choice. However, if you are okay with a game card and though we did not review it I think for $200 GTX 460 could be a great card. The issue is for overall viewport response we have never found game cards to be truly adequate and as a system builder we end up taking them back and replacing them with FX-cards (reference: Tim Saunders CG forum review of RenderStream workstations).
