"Create Shape" command producing wierd results...

Whenever I perform a Create Shape command the shape gets created with Bezier vertices instead of Corner. I didn't used to have this problem (before MAX 2010). What setting do I need to adjust to get the vertice type to default to Corner?

 

You'll see in the screen shots of my trying to create some vinyl base molding around a room perimeter that the shapes vertices have got to be converted back to corner.
