Hi everyone

i need a suggestion from people who have already moved to 3dsmax 2011.

We are planning to upgrade to it. Currently we are using 3dsmax2008 with xp 64bit and it is very very stable. Can you guys suggest if its worth the upgrade?

i hope it doesnt crash too much like our max 2009 used to endlessly.

Also we found interface like too confusing. for eg the material browser and editor, Also in editable poly if i perform an operation the spinner dialog has been changed to some funky look with two arrows to change values and tick, + , and X symbols to execute the command. can these things be changed to older look of just simple spinners and tick on off option.

Or do i have to start working in that fashion if i load max 2011.

Any other bug or performance issue reported majorly by lot of people

Thanks. Your valuable suggestions will mean a lot to decide

Thanks again

I moved from 2009 to 2011 a few weeks ago, so far it's been just as stable as 2009 but the display response seems to be slower and zooming and panning in the perspective view is a pain because it hangs after you do a few operations. Another annoying thing that I've been experiencing is that it doesn't want to open 2009 files, when it tries it just quits responding. I don't know if this happens every time or with every file but it is something that has happened several times. Over all it's got about the same amount of bugs and problems as any new release, there's a new hotfix that fixes some of the issues and overall I'm fairly satisfied.

I am astounded with what you get with 2011 and the Autodesk subscription.

Image modeller, Character Animation Tools (CAT), Camera Matchmover, Composite (Combustion/Toxic Rebranded) and all that with Sketchup import capability, which became an embedded feature of 2011.

I like the improvements to the viewport canvas and improved paintable geometry in 2011.

Also a crazy crazy fan about 2011, although I'm the only one in the office using it, but that's NOooooooooooooooo problem any more as you can save you're max files as 2010. just brilliant!

and got no hicups with any plugins/scripts either

I say go for it!!

Ummm 2011, started off loving it, now find it really frustrating and moving back to 2010. too many quirks; hangs on simple tasks like opening the material editor, the drop down menus disappear and crashes on simple edit poly tools like chamfer edge.

I really hope the new hotfix sorts some of this out.

moving to 2011 from 2009 soon but looking at the viewport performance (in current GPU roundup) it seems to get alot worse for those using quadros from 2010 which is concerning...

max really needs to sort out its rubbish viewport problems.

I'm finding 2011 one of the most significant and best upgrades they have put out in years.

I've been using it for a few months now and have not had a single issue with it.

The only thing I will say is about the new spinners - sometimes I like them and sometimes I don't.
