rajs
Can anyone advise me on a simple way of taking a 3D model of a face and removing the facial features to leave just a smooth curved surface? I have no experience at this kind of modelling. I tried the optimize modifier but it did not smooth away the nose, eyes or lips. I photoshopped an image to show you the effect I want to achieve. Many thanks
abmitalia
Well , one way could be to select the polygons you need and than choose '' make planar '' from the polygon modifier panal. After that tweek the vertex as you want them to be. RK
Fran
You can try using the Remove function in the Edit Edges rollout of the Editable Poly panel to remove selected edges.
Stephen Thomas
If you're using a recent version of 3ds max it's worth looking into the new graphite modelling toolbar, especially the freeform tools. There are some features that allow you to average out and smooth the geometry.
rajs
Thank you for the advice, it looks like the graphite modeling freeform tools such as flatten, push/pull and relax/soften will be very useful for what i want to achieve. cheers very much
Stephen Thomas
It might also be a good idea to just work on half the model and apply a mirror modifier, rather than trying to repeat your adjustments on both sides of the face.
cupsster
Just select desired faces... enable soft selection mode.. experiment with selection and use relax button multiple times with adjustment of selected faces..
