3ds Max + Mental Ray Volume Light for Interior Scene

I am currently working on a side project and cant seem to get my volume light to play nicely with me.

Im trying to do some slight fog coming in through a window. What I get is a solid blob of fog coming in the window even though I have blinds.

My questions is why would I be getting a blob of fog instead of getting streaks of fog coming through the blinds. Shouldnt the fog be blocked my blinds geometry to create the streak effect?

Using Max 2010 with MR Using a spot light and volume light shader.

Cant post any Images right now because Im at work. Just wondering if someone understands the issue and know a solution for it :)

Thanks

Took a look at the max file. I dont have a daylight system set up so I dont really think I can use this method. I have a decent lighting setup done so far that Im happy with I would just like to add some fog coming through the window.

this might seem like a little bit of a cheat... but lately I have been taking my z depth, and using it in ps on screen blending mode and just masking out the areas i don't want... so I can dictate exactly how my light volume looks.

I got sick of trying to set up the parti volume in max...
