cummings9306
Hello, I am having trouble with the latest VRay sp1.5. I have attatched a couple of examples that have given me trouble. For some reason, I can't get the window glass to become clear. Also, the exterior wall with the windows is black - it should be white paint. I have tried just about everything. There is an example showing the automatic exposue control on in the environment and with it set to "no exposure control" also. Any suggestions to a newbie would be greatly appreciated. I have put an exterior sun in the model, but can't seem to get it to show up outside. cummings9306
azeta3d
hey there! first, about the glass, check that besides the refraction colour the Affect shadows/Affect alpha boxes are checked, that will let the sun come into the room, now as you can see you only are getting enviroment light. About the wall, check that there are not fliped or overlaped faces, usually when it renders black is because of that. Hope that helps!
cummings9306
I really appreciate your help. However, I am not able to find the settings that you refer to. I am using V-Ray 1.50 SP5 with 3d studio Max 2011. I could not find the check boxes for Affect shadows/Affect alpha. On the Global Swithces tab under the V-Ray tab, under Lighting, the checkbox for shadows is checked. I looked also in the material editor and couldn't find any checkboxes for those attributes either. Please let me know where you found these switches. Thanks a bunch. -Robert
azeta3d
you can find that checkboxes inside the glass material, in the material editor slot.
cummings9306
Man, I've tried just about every setting. The rendering has gotten worse. I have attached a rendering using the Mental Ray renderer along with the HSV setting in V-ray rendering. What can I do to get this thing looking good.In the environment, I've set it for Linear exposure control and the checkbox to Active. cummings9306
you can find that checkboxes inside the glass material, in the material editor slot. here is a file with no exposure control. What is the setting to get the sunlight to show up? It is checked on in the Vray environment settings. Stan Zaslavsky
have you got any lights inside the room? also with mental ray you should be using GI to improve light bouncing around the room
cummings9306
Actually, I haven't had any problems using mental ray after importing revit into 3ds max 2011. The problem is when I switch over to VRay. I have tried putting in a Vray sun which would shine through the windows into the interior space. That is the only light that I have put in the model. Is there possibly something that I should be adding or modifying to the materials? Like possibly adding a VRay subcomponent?
cummings9306
Also, one last thing, I have been successful in inserting VRay interior lights and getting the interior to render. However, the problem that I am having is when I insert a Vray sun and environment and getting the interior to render with just natural light shining in through the windows. That is why I ask the question about somehow modifying the glass material. Just a thought. Let me know if you've had any success with your imported models. Thanks. Dave Buckley
I may have misread this but am I right in thinking you are using the exposure controls in the environment and effects dialogue box and then rendering with vray? Or were you merely comparing a mental ray render to one done in vray with equivalent settings?
cummings9306
Well, when I rendered the Vray file, in the environment settings I used the "no exposure control" setting. When I rendered it in Mental Ray, I used the "automatic exposure" control setting in the environment control panel.
aaronrumple
...looks like only direct light to me with GI disabled. Are you using IR/LC for your GI? Are you using a vray camera (you should).
cummings9306
I rendered the image using a vray camera (exposure off)and with the exposure box checked on (made a better difference). However, the sun doesn't shine in through the windows. I have used a vray sun, too. The saved rendering looks better than what I see on my screen. Also, there are red spots on the rendering as well. Got any more suggestions. I have printed the screens with all of the settings. Do you see anything that would fix the rendering? I have attached a screen image of all the vray settings that I have used.
carlotristan3d
Have you solved your problem? start with the obvious, is the GI on? your image looks like GI is disabled.
